HONG KONG: Former Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee Hua is shown in his first year in office. Tung was the first elected Chief Executive of the what is now known as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. He took office on July 1, 1997 after the handover of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to China, and was elected again to a second five-year term in 2002 but resigned 3 years later claiming poor health but most say it was due to the growing controversies surrounding his governing.
