ALICE SPRINGS, AUSTRALIA: General scenes of Uluru (Ayers Rock) in central Australia. Uluru, also referred to as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory in central Australia in the Kata Tjuta National Park. The Olgas are 36 domes, covering an area of 21.68 km, are composed of conglomerate, a sedimentary rock consisting of cobbles and boulders of varying rock types including granite and basalt, cemented by a matrix of sandstone. The highest point, Mount Olga, is 1066 m above sea level, or approximately 546 m above the surrounding plain and is 203 meters higher than Uluru. Photograph by David Paul Morris
